Christingle Report 2018
Sunday 16th December 2018 saw the chapel well filled for a Christingle Service. We joined with Whitby Parish this year and so we had the services of the inimitable Stephen Maltby to provide the music which was extremely fortunate as Sr. Jocelyn was just out of hospital following a knee replacement.
Stephen gathered together a band so that added a new dimension to our worship and seemed to be well received by the congregation of about 80 adults and 20 children.
Fr. Michael Gobbett led the service giving Fr. Steve a chance to play his Cittern with the band
There was a wonderful turn out on a fine but cold December afternoon with about 60 adults and 15 children.
We had some of the traditional Christmas readings and during the carols which followed each reading the children brought forward the Crib figures; animals, Mary and Joseph and finally the baby Jesus – a week early but a must for the little ones.
Father Steve had some wonderful assistance from the younger children in building a Christingle and then the Christingles which had been “made earlier” by the OHP sisters were distributed.
Once the Christingles had all been lit the children sang the first verse of “Away in a Manger” and we all sang along with verses two and three.
After the blesiing by Fr. Michael he congregation then departed to the Sister’s dining room for mulled wine and mince pies and a lovely time of fellowship.
The Christingle raised £135.15 for the Children’s Society.
